The Story
Andersen's classic tale of a penniless young waif who is conned by the Old
Soldier into coveting a pair of red dancing shoes. However, when young Karen
puts on the shoes she has stretched the truth to obtain, she discovers she
can neither take them off, nor stop dancing. Finally, in a very theatrical
and moving scene the repentant girl finds the help she needs to overpower
the evil magic of the red shoes.
